The Pakistan Business Council and Industries (PBCI) established its Computer & Internet Department in January 1992 with the aim of enhancing its services through the effective utilization of Information Technology (I.T.) tools. The PBCI’s Computer & Internet Department operates based on the following general parameters:

Objectives of PBCI’s Computer & Internet Department:

  1. Assist in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of an efficient I.T. infrastructure to improve the productivity of various PBCI departments, with a continuous focus on enhancing service quality for member satisfaction.
  2. Provide valuable guidance to members on Information Technology usage for cost-effective and efficient business automation.
  3. Organize I.T.-related seminars, workshops, and training programs through the I.T. Committee for the benefit of PBCI members.
  4. Undertake in-house maintenance and enhancement of internal computer networks, software, data, and the PBCI website.
  5. Provide I.T. training to PBCI staff to enhance their proficiency in computer usage.

Major functions of PBCI’s Computer & Internet Department:

  1. Software Development: Develop customized, integrated applications for use across various PBCI departments. Completed projects include scalable applications like client/server membership systems, financial control systems, and customized multiuser faxing solutions.
  2. Web Development: Maintain and develop the PBCI website. Core maintenance operations are handled by the Computer & Internet Department, with other departments contributing daily updates.
  3. Election Arrangements: Play a key role in ensuring fair and transparent annual elections at PBCI. Prepare electronic and printed voters’ lists with member photographs. Develop and update customized software for the election process.
  4. E-Mail: Assist other departments in sending information to PBCI members through emails. The department sends over 100,000 emails independently to keep members informed about important developments and events.
  5. Network Management: Manage a comprehensive, mature, multiplatform computer network with over 100 computers in a multiplatform environment. Provide advice to members on I.T. related problems, suggest technology solutions, and manage a ticketing-based request tracking system.
  6. Other Support Functions: Efficiently provide assistance to other PBCI departments in utilizing I.T. This includes conducting multimedia presentations, bulk printing of mailing labels, specially designed envelopes, and special invitations from the PBCI platform.
